The Derngate auditorium had been transformed into a glittering ballroom set under a night sky canopy of twinkling stars – had we arrived at The Baftas or the final of Strictly by mistake? Delicious canapés and champagne were followed by an excellent dinner showcasing the very best food and drink our home county can offer. We did not have to wait long as our category Independent Tea Room / Café of The Year 2013/14 was the first to be announced. We were up against some fantastic venues and were thrilled to be declared the winners. Whilst David and Dan remained in their seats Pip, Anna and I weaved our way excitedly through the applauding tables to the stage and as our Anna stepped forward to collect the award it was irresistible to presenter Anna Murby not to comment on our star baker’s bun in the oven! It was truly a night to remember.

The award could not have been won without the Jeyes team back at base. They had been on the front line dealing with mystery shoppers, groups and the day to day running of The Apothocoffee Shop.

The next day we presented our ‘coffee shop girls’ with the trophy and some well-deserved flowers. As a family we thank our staff, regular customers and Earls Barton very much for your continued support.
